Fire Response
It is important to know the following information about your area:

  • Department specific evacuation plan
    • On Orange Clipboards at ends of hallways and/or near a chem wash station
    • Note location of your 3 stairwells.  Note location of extinguishers, fire blankets (and wash stations).
      • Stairwells have a fire rating of 2hrs. If a person cannot safely make it down the stairs, they can (ask someone to) call for emergency assistance and hold in place in the stairwell for up to 2 hours. 
  • Location of fire alarm pull stations and how to activate them
  • Location of fire extinguishers and how to operate them
    • Enders “ABC" Fire Extinguishers
      For:
      • Ordinary combustibles such as wood, paper, cardboard and plastic (Class A fires)
      • Flammable or combustible liquids (Class B fires)
      • Electrical equipment (Class C fires)
      To Use:
      • Use in the Upright Position
      • Pull the activation pin
      • Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire
      • Squeeze the handle to release the agent
      • Sweep a stream over the base of the fire

For smoke or fire, remember...R.A.C.E.
RESCUE anyone in immediate danger
ALARM and call 5-6525 (offsite locations call 9-911)
CLOSE doors to confine the fire
EVACUATE following your department's evacuation plan

Safe Corridors
It is very important to keep corridors clear and free of clutter to allow for a safe evacuation in the event of a fire or other emergency. The guidelines below explain what is allowed in hallways.

  • Permitted in Corridors 
    • Equipment in use, on wheels, to one side of corridor
  • Not Permitted
    • Items not on wheels
    • Equipment that remains longer than 30 minutes in one place (example: soiled linen bins)
